VZW Rest. THK&Imp. is orga­niz­ing this two-day course at the Icarus Acad­e­my, fea­tur­ing hands-on train­ing on occlu­sion, artic­u­la­tion, and bite reg­is­tra­tion with den­tist Wal­ter Van Bre­da and DT Juan Olivi­er (US), with the sup­port of Pieter-Jan Swerts, Paule Peeters, Con­nor Olivi­er and Ron Gilman.

Occlu­sion and artic­u­la­tion are cru­cial in restora­tive den­tistry. In the past, many the­o­ries were pre­sent­ed in a com­plex man­ner. We’ll start the day by explain­ing in a sim­ple way what we know best about the var­i­ous occlusal con­cepts. We’ll dive deeply into the prin­ci­ples we use when treat­ing both teeth and implants.

When we need the den­tal lab­o­ra­to­ry for our treat­ment, accu­rate bite reg­is­tra­tion is essen­tial. Not only to achieve a cor­rect occlu­sion but also to ensure aes­thet­ic results. This step still receives insuf­fi­cient atten­tion. Dif­fer­ent jaw posi­tions need to be com­mu­ni­cat­ed for dif­fer­ent treatments.

What reg­is­tra­tion do we use for an ide­al wax-up, injec­tion tech­nique, bite plate, or oth­er exten­sive crown and bridge­work? What is the best method the reg­is­ter the new bite in case of a VDO increase?

For ante­ri­or reha­bil­i­ta­tions, com­mu­ni­cat­ing the cor­rect 3D posi­tion of the jaws to the den­tal lab­o­ra­to­ry is essen­tial. Tra­di­tion­al mechan­i­cal aids such as face­bows and sticks are explained, along with their indi­ca­tions and lim­i­ta­tions. Mod­ern dig­i­tal tools such as pho­tog­ra­phy, face scan­ners, and ​“OneBite Evo­lu­tion” are dis­cussed and crit­i­cal­ly ana­lyzed. The goal is to per­form this essen­tial step in den­tist-lab­o­ra­to­ry com­mu­ni­ca­tion as effi­cient­ly and acces­si­bly as possible.

Dur­ing the hands-on ses­sions, we will prac­tice the afore­men­tioned bite reg­is­tra­tion methods.

2. Cen­tral rela­tion­ship and bite ele­va­tion: CR wax bites, leaf gauge, jig, Wal­ter’s stick
