VZW Rest. THK&Imp. is organizing this two-day course at the Icarus Academy, featuring hands-on training on occlusion, articulation, and bite registration with dentist Walter Van Breda and Pieter-Jan Swerts.
Registration
Occlusion and articulation are crucial in restorative dentistry. In the past, many theories were presented in a complex manner. We’ll start the day by explaining in a simple way what we know best about the various occlusal concepts. We’ll dive deeply into the principles we use when treating both teeth and implants.
When we need the dental laboratory for our treatment, accurate bite registration is essential. Not only to achieve a correct occlusion but also to ensure aesthetic results. This step still receives insufficient attention. Different jaw positions need to be communicated for different treatments.
What registration do we use for an ideal wax-up, injection technique, bite plate, or other extensive crown and bridgework? What is the best method the register the new bite in case of a VDO increase?
For anterior rehabilitations, communicating the correct 3D position of the jaws to the dental laboratory is essential. Traditional mechanical aids such as facebows and sticks are explained, along with their indications and limitations. Modern digital tools such as photography, face scanners, and “OneBite Evolution” are discussed and critically analyzed. The goal is to perform this essential step in dentist-laboratory communication as efficiently and accessibly as possible.
During the hands-on sessions, we will practice the aforementioned bite registration methods.

3. OneBite Evolution (Bio-Emulation) ‘new’ by Pieter-Jan Swerts

Walter Van Breda
After his dental studies, Walter Van Breda specialized further in prosthetic dentistry at the Catholic University of Leuven. From 1990 till 1995, he was associated with the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry Catholic University of Leuven. Currently, he teaches at the Institute for Osseointegration at the same university.
Ron Paolo Gilman
Ron Gilman is een audiovisueel professional met meer dan 20 jaar ervaring in fotografie en videoproductie. Hij is gestart als journalistiek cameraman voor internationale nieuwsagentschappen, gevolgd door meer dan 12 jaar specialisatie in de tandheelkundige en medische sector. Hij is gespecialiseerd in het creëren van hoogwaardige audiovisuele producties, chirurgische casusdocumentatie, diagnostische fotografieprotocollen en het geven van workshops wereldwijd in gelaats- en dentale analysefotografie.
Pieter-Jan Swerts
Pieter-Jan Swerts studeerde af in 2017 als Master in de tandheelkunde aan de KU Leuven. Nadien volgde hij een specialisatie prothetische en restauratieve tandheelkunde. Sinds 2023 maakt Pieter-Jan deel uit van het managementteam van Tandartspraktijk Icarus.
Paule Peeters
Studeerde af in 1994 als Tandarts te Leuven. Nadien volgde zij een specialisatie prothetische, restauratieve tandheelkunde gedurende 3 jaar full time. Verschillende jaren nadien bleef ze actief als consulent aan de Universiteit te Leuven. Verder bekwaamde zij zich met vele binnen- en buitenlandse congressen en geeft ze regelmatig voordrachten aan tandartsen over prothetiek en implantaten. Paule is sinds 1999 instructor voor het instituut voor osseoïntegratie, KUL. Ze volgde de masteropleiding voor implantologie bij Prof. Eric Rompen en studeerde af in 2008 met grote onderscheiding (Diplome d’étude spécialisées européen en implantologie orale). In 2007 richtte ze de groepspraktijk Icarus op .
Juan Oliver

Juan Olivier is a Certified Dental Technician, Master Ceramist, and proud member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is a distinguished graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, a PAC-Live Master Technician, and a Fellow of the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics. Additionally, he has completed advanced training in occlusion under the guidance of Dr. Clayton Chan at Occlusion Connections.
